Rehabilitative Therapy
Physical Therapy & Occupational Therapy
Medicare usually covers physical and occupational therapy (rehab) for patients recovering at home after a hospital stay. Provided a patient's doctor gives them a written prescription, Medicare also often covers in-home physical therapy to help people regain the ability to walk and/or stand, even though they are not recovering after a hospital stay.
Important: When Medicare need therapy to recover after a hospital stay, or to regain the ability to stand or walk, Medicare will not pay for it unless it is provided by a Medicare-certified agency. But, only about half of the agencies are certified. If you use an agency that is not certified, you will have to pay for the therapy out of your own pocket.
